Collaborative Exchange Forum & MoU Signing Ceremony between CUHK SZRI and CUB

The Chinese University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Research Institute (CUHK SZRI) and Corvinus University of Budapest (CUB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for strategic cooperation on March 6, 2024. The MOU aims to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation between both sides in science, technology and innovation (ST&I), contributing to scientific and technological advancements of both China and Hungary.

Professor Yeung Yam, Director of CUHK SZRI, and Dr. Péter Fehér, Vice President for International Relations of CUB, signed the MOU on behalf of the two parties.

Mr. Előd Tasnády, Deputy Consul General of Consulate General of Hungary in Guangzhou, Ms. Rong Chen, Representative of Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, Mr. Jianxiong Zhou, Representative of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipality, Mr. Renátó Horváth, Commercial Consul of the Consulate General of Hungary in Guangzhou, Professor Andrea Kő, Head of the Institute of  Data Analytics and Information Systems of CUB, Professor Peter Baranyi, Head of the Cognitive Infocommunications Research Center of CUB, Professor Wai-yee Chan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and Professor Helen Meng, Director of the Center for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence, witnessed the signing ceremony.

According to the MOU, CUHK SZRI and CUB will establish a platform whereby faculty members from both sides with common interests may cooperate in developing joint research and innovation projects and other academic activities.

Professor Wai-yee Chan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, congratulated both CUHK SZRI and CUB for building bridges of collaboration. He said that CUHK has long been promoting international collaborations with a global vision of bridging China and the West for over 60 years of its history. This MOU will serve as the catalyst for fostering a closer partnership between CUHK and CUB in GBA, pushing the boundaries of technological advancements and ushering in a future teeming with innovation and boundless possibilities.

Professor Yeung Yam, Director of CUHK SZRI said that CUB, carrying a tradition spanning over a century, stands as a beacon of academic excellence in Hungary. The MOU will establish partnership in joint research projects, talent development and technology transfer activities for the two institutions. The collaboration will also serve to support the Belt and Road Initiative through strengthening of the China-Hungary technological and cultural exchanges, in line with the national strategies of both countries.

Mr. Előd Tasnády, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of Hungary in Guangzhou, stated that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary.  Hungary is the first in the European Union to sign a Belt and Road intergovernmental cooperation document with China. He hopes that CUHK SZRI and CUB would promote in-depth exchanges through ST&I collaboration, and foster cooperation in the economic and social development of the two countries.

Dr Péter Fehér, Vice President for International Relations of CUB, mentioned that the two institutions share many similarities in terms of curriculums and research directions and hoped that they would gradually open more channels for cooperation on various areas, such as Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology, and other enriched modes of cooperation in the future.

In additional to signing the MOU, CUHK SZRI and CUB also signed a collaborative agreement to ensure early actions be taken related to the MOU.
